CLAUDIA CONTE AT THE VENICE FILM FESTIVAL WITH “WOMEN IN CINEMA AWARD”: AMONG THE WINNERS JANE CAMPION, ILARIA CAPUA, NOEMI AND MONICA GUERRITORE seventh edition of Claudia Conte’s award dedicated to women’s talent. This year solidarity with victims of violence The seventh edition of the Women in Cinema Award will take place on 5 September at 5.30 pm at the Italian Pavilion of the Hotel Excelsior, an award curated and produced by Claudia Conte, presenter, columnist and human rights activist, who is at the same time also testimonial of the award.


The Women in Cinema Award, which will take place as part of the 80th Edition of the Venice International Film Festival in the presence of Director Alberto Barbera under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture, has always aimed to enhance the talent of women in art and cinema in particular. This seventh edition is dedicated to the delicate issue of violence against women, after having in recent years given voice to Afghan, Turkish and Iranian women.


To receive the Wica award this year will be: 

the Oscar winner Jane Campion, the world-renowned researcher Ilaria Capua, the director and screenwriter Kaouther Ben Hania who tells the difficult condition of women in Tunisia, the iconic actress and director Monica Guerritore, the energetic and talented singer Noemi, Chiara Sbarigia first woman to preside over central institutions for the audiovisual industry such as Cinecittà and APA. “These are six extraordinary female figures: directors, producers, actresses, singers, scientific researchers, professionals of great prestige, each of whom has demonstrated an unparalleled commitment in their area within the global film landscape with a careful look at the world of women and gender equality”, reads the motivations.


”This year we have chosen to dedicate Wica to the topic of violence against women, – explains Claudia Conte – because we are facing a real emergency and it is important to keep the spotlight on. 

According to Istat, 31.5% of women have suffered some form of violence. We want not only to express solidarity and closeness, but also to encourage them to denounce he violence” 

Claudia Conte does not hide the importance of the award for her – “ It is a project that I care a lot about. I

conceived it together with Angela Prudenzi and Cristina Scognamillo supported by an all-female Academy of

excellent pens. Seeing it born and grow in such an extraordinary way fills me with joy. It is a project that

comes from women for women, an example of female leadership, virtuous collaboration and mutual support”

.

The President of the Veneto region Luca Zaia also expressed his appreciation for the award: “This is an

important initiative, on a topic that is never discussed enough. I want to congratulate those who have carried

out the initiative, certain that it will be an example”.

Alongside the Women in Cinema Awards, this year also the KPMG|WiCA which will be delivered to

producer Verdiana Bixio, President of Publispei.
